Gretzky mulls coaching future as Coyotes' season ends
It's been another forgettable season for the Coyotes, whose last playoff series victory came in 1987. They head into the offseason with many questions -- including whether Wayne Gretzky will return as coach.
Curtis Joseph may be less than two weeks from turning 39 years old, but the Phoenix Coyotes goaltender appears far from finished. In his final audition before he becomes an unrestricted free agent, Joseph made 40 saves for his fourth shutout and the Coyotes ended their season with a 3-0 victory over the St.
Jose Theodore couldn't ask for much more. He was seeing the puck well, survived a pair of two-man advantages and his new teammates were scoring in bunches at the other end. Then things kind of fizzled -- three goals in the final 8 minutes. Sure, it was a disappointing finish, but Theodore won his first game as Colorado's starter and that's all that really mattered.
After getting his second straight shutout, Nashville Predators goalie Tomas Vokoun gave teammate Brendan Witt the credit. "Brendan Witt is playing great," Vokoun said after stopping 24 shots in the Predators' 2-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. "He blocks shots. He is also a leader.

The Phoenix Coyotes gave Curtis Joseph way more offense than the NHL's sixth winningest goalie needed. Shane Doan and Steven Reinprecht each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, who scored five unanswered goals to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Tuesday night. Joseph made 31 saves for his 423rd victory, tying him with Tony Esposito on the NHL's career list.
Steven Reinprecht has found a home alongside Shane Doan. Reinprecht had a goal and two assists, and Doan added a goal and an assist, and the Phoenix Coyotes held on to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 Thursday night for their third straight win.
